Biography
Perlberg, Christian Johann Georg, painter, copper engraver, b. 1806 in Cologne, d. 1884 in Nuremberg. Son of →Friedrich Ludwig Franz. Married in Nuremberg on October 15, 1837, to Anna Dorothea Katharina Cornelia (* December 12, 1810 † July 12, 1868), daughter of Georg Friedrich Christoph →Durst, tin painter; three sons, five daughters. After training with his father and attending the art school in Nuremberg, he entered the Academy in Munich in 1834. As part of Prince Otto’s entourage, he undertook trips to Greece around 1835, as well as to Italy; in 1838, several of his paintings depicting Greek motifs were exhibited in Nuremberg. His painting “Am Königssee,” shown at the Karlsruhe Art Exhibition in June 1837, was reviewed in the Schorn Art Journal in 1838, p. 67, though the artist was mistakenly named as Herrenberg. In 1837 he was once again residing in Nuremberg; in 1840 he lived at p. 186 (Weißgerbergasse 35). In 1850/81, he owned the house at p. 478b (Am Oelberg 5/corner of Obere Schmiedgasse 6), where he is also mentioned as late as 1884; in 1878, he was a member of the Großreuth Morning Society.
