Biografie
Elisabeth Alida Haanen was the daughter of the art dealer, restorer, and genre painter Casparis Haanen (1778–1849) and Isabella Johanna Sangster (1777–1846).
Haanen painted genre pieces, mostly in the style of seventeenth-century masters such as Gerard Dou and Gabriël Metsu. Her paintings were exhibited in Amsterdam and The Hague between 1832 and 1844. In 1838, she was appointed an honorary member of the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. The auction catalog of the late Dr. Jan Bleuland from 1839 shows that Haanen had found a patron in him. She died on June 8, 1845, in Amsterdam.
Some of her paintings are held at the Teylers Museum, the Amsterdam Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and the Instituut Collectie Nederland. (Source: Wikipedia)
